These Wedding Wednesday posts have quickly become a series that I truly look forward to every week! Perhaps it’s my love of weddings or planning! Whatever it is, I hope that you are enjoying these posts as much as I am. And if you’ve missed our Wedding Wednesday posts, be sure to click here to see every post in the series so far and get caught up!!
You may remember our post from the beginning of the year, where I shared all about the importance of the bridal bouquet! I absolutely loved the responses we received from that post, and thought it would only be appropriate to reach out to an expert to give more information on Wedding Day florals! So, today, I’m beyond excited to introduce to you, Dawn Yaxley, a Senior Floral Designer at Demco.
Enough of my talking! Let’s hear from the pro, herself!
Wedding flowers are steeped in history they have been a tradition for many years because of their natural beauty. They are considered a gift of nature, long life and happiness and will likely remain a tradition for many more years. The appeal of wedding flowers is now purely aesthetic, however we spend many hours sourcing the perfect blooms for your special day.
There are many questions that you may want to ask yourself when creating your wedding florals! Do you want your wedding to be a beautiful, glamorous occasion or do you want to project an image of simplicity and timeless elegance? Are you a minimalist & trendy sort of bride or more casual, relaxed and breezy? Do you want to have a fairytale wedding or a modern affair? All of these images will be enhanced and heightened by the flowers you choose for your wedding décor and your bridal bouquet.Flowers play an important role in the theme of your wedding, colour and fragrant aromas often enhance our memories and you definitely want your day to evoke as many memories as possible. The day will pass so fast! So being able to hold on to a fragrant smell or colour will stay with you and your guests forever. Choose colours that you love both with the bridesmaids’ dresses and the flowers, but firstly start with the venue. Bermuda has so many beautiful venues, whether you choose the beach with its turquoise waters or the amazing flora and fauna of our lush outdoor spaces, combine these elements with your flowers to create a truly wonderful colour pallet.
Florals can really enhance a space and capture moments. The bridal bouquet, is the most important design piece, every other creation stems from the choices that go into the bridal bouquet. Whether it’s a hand-tied bouquet of solid roses or a loose unstructured design of sweet peas and orchids…this is your special design piece and it should consist of flowers that carry a special meaning or memory to you. For the bridesmaids I like to play on colours from the bridal bouquet and overrall wedding theme and would recommend contrasting the bridesmaids florals with their dresses rather than blending & matching. Opposites or shades lighter & darker than the dress are a great choice so that the photographs really pop!
Happy Wedding Wednesday, sweet friends! And again, a huge thank you to Dawn & Demco for curating this beautiful post!
